24-Hour Observation

Short-stay monitoring when your clinician needs a closer look before sending you home.

Clinical team reviewing patient results

About this service

Not every condition needs admission — but some shouldn't be sent home too quickly either. Observation is the careful middle ground: you stay with us for a few hours up to a day while we monitor how your condition develops.

It's commonly used after treatment in emergency, while waiting for test results that will shape the next decision, or when symptoms need watching before it's safe to say you can go home.

What we help with

  • Post-treatment monitoring — making sure treatment is working before you leave.
  • Watchful waiting — symptoms that need a trained eye over several hours.
  • Decision support — time for test results to clarify whether you can go home or should be admitted.

What to expect when you visit

You're settled into observation

A nurse takes your baseline observations and explains how the stay works and roughly how long it will be.

Regular monitoring

Your vitals and symptoms are checked at regular intervals, with a clinician reviewing the picture as it develops.

A clear decision

Within 24 hours you'll have one of two outcomes: discharge home with instructions, or admission with a treatment plan — always explained, never assumed.

Common questions

Will I definitely go home within 24 hours?
Most observation stays end in discharge. If your condition needs more care, we convert your stay to admission and explain the plan.
Can someone stay with me?
A relative can usually remain nearby — the team will guide you depending on the ward situation.
